Founded in 2013, the Modern Roots Foundation (MRF) has dedicated their mission to filling the gaps left behind by arts programs budget cuts in school systems, creating a sustainable concept of linked musical prosperity. The MRF ensures that Southern Oregon children ages 8-18 have access to musical instruments and instruction, regardless of their family’s economic status. Funding supports the Linking Musical Prosperity scholarship program and focuses on connecting the children to weekly music instruction as well as instrument rentals and camps.
To operate in a way that actively recognizes the central role that music plays in our children’s lives by initiating innovative ways to improve the distribution of music regionally, one child at a time!
To encourage, distribute and offer the finest quality of instruction and instrument support of American Roots-based stringed instruments to the youth market with a continued commitment to incorporating easily accessible tools.
To operate our organization on a sustainable financial basis of growth, increasing value for our members and expanding opportunities for development and growth for our youth. Underlying the mission of Modern Roots Foundation is the determination to seek new and creative ways of addressing all three parts, while holding a deep respect for individuals inside and outside the organization and for the communities of which they are a part.

One of the most magical things I’ve every seen is the sparkle in children’s eyes when they realize they’ve just made music. You see, music explains what words cannot, and children need to be heard.
